Hillside Evangelical Church is seeking to appoint a full time staff elder

Details of the process and information on the ethos and values of the church will be issued to interested applicants. It is hoped that interviews for those short listed will take place in February 2017.

Appointment from 1st September 2017 to replace the current staff elder who is retiring.

The team can always use more fillers for boxes – small soft toys (although larger soft toys can go along with large cartons), cars and other small toys, toothbrushes, toothpaste, soap or other non liquid toiletries, sweets, stationery – pencils, paper etc.  If you have contacts with any businesses who may be able to supply fillers that would be great.  Even reams of blank paper or out of date headed notepaper – all much appreciated.

Team Hope is aiming to deliver 200,000 shoeboxes from the island of Ireland into the hands of needy children in Africa, the former Soviet Union and Eastern Europe, whose families typically live on less than €1 per day.
This year, seven new countries have asked for shoeboxes and for many children, it is the only Christmas present they will receive. According to Niall Barry, Team Hope Executive Director, the Christmas Shoebox Appeal has delivered Irish gift-filled shoeboxes to 2.8 million deprived children in twenty-one countries over the last 14 years. “We help bring joy, laughter and hope to children living on the margins of society, victims of war, disease or poverty in some of the world’s most underdeveloped countries,” he said.

What is The Parenting Teenagers Course?

The Parenting Teenagers Course is for any parents, step-parents, or carers of children aged 11 – 18 years.

Why do the course?

• Parenting teenagers is harder than ever for most parents today
• No role we undertake in life is more important than parenting

We are the main influence on our teenagers’ future. Discovering we are not alone in the challenges we face and picking up ideas from other parents can make a huge difference. Meeting our teenagers’ deepest needs, setting healthy boundaries, helping to develop their emotional health and teaching them how to make good choices takes skill and dedication. Taking time to reflect on our end goal can help us to build our relationship with our teenagers now.

More Information

The Parenting Teenagers Course was developed in 1990 by Nicky and Sila Lee (authors of The Parenting Book) for parents and care-givers looking for practical support to strengthen their family relationships.

Over five sessions, the course will help you to:

• Keep your long term aim in mind
• Meet you teenager’s needs
• Set clear boundaries
• Develop emotional health
• Help them make good choices

Who is it for?

The Parenting Teenagers Course is for parents, step-parents, prospective parents or carers of teenagers aged 11-18 years.

The course is for every type of parenting situation including parenting on your own, step-parenting and parenting as a couple.

The Parenting Teenagers Course is based on Christian principles but designed for all couples with or without a church background.

What can I expect?

On The Parenting Teenagers Course, you are seated in small groups based on the age of your oldest child so that you can meet other parents and carers with teenagers of a similar age.

Each session begins with something to eat and/or drink, giving you space to relax and chat to other parents or carers followed by a practical talk and a time for discussion in groups.

The talk is given live or on DVD and includes street interview, filmed clips of parents and teenagers sharing their own experiences and advice from parenting experts.

We will meet at Hillside Evangelical Church in Greystones at 1pm to register for the sponsored walk.

We will be walking part of the Greystones to Bray Cliff walk and coming back to Hillside Church for a BBQ.

You are invited to participate in ‘The Parenting Childrens Course’

This 5 week DVD based presentation is hosted by Nicky and Silla Lee who’ve been married for over 30 years and have 4 children and 3 grandchildren.

Family life is under great pressure today and parents face bewildering choices about how to parent effectively. Discovering we are not alone in the challenges we face and picking up ideas from other parents can make a huge difference. We can all learn how to make even the happiest family better. This is a great way to invest in your family and help make good relationships even better.

The course will run on 5 Monday nights (Mondays 21st and 28th September, 5th, 12th and 19th October) from 7.45-9.45pm in Hillside Evangelical Church and is for any parents, step-parents, prospective parents or carers of children aged 0 – 10 years.

Cost

The 5 week course will cost €10 for either 1 or 2 parents and includes materials teas and coffees.
